Specialty & Complex Lifts

When the lift requires more than a crane and an operator — WMS plans, coordinates, and executes the hard picks.

The Hard Picks Other Crews Won’t Take

Complex lifts are defined by the constraints, not just the weight. Tight urban sites where swing paths must avoid occupied buildings, active utilities, and public rights-of-way. Structural steel picks where final bearing position tolerances leave zero margin for error. Precast panel placements at multi-story buildings where setting sequence is engineered before the first pick.

WMS brings pre-lift engineering to every complex scope. That means written lift plans, outrigger load calculations, crane positioning diagrams, and pick sequences reviewed with the GC or structural engineer before we commit equipment to the site. For tandem crane lifts, we coordinate both operators, designate a lift director, and run a full crew brief before the hooks go up.

Our zero-incident record on complex lifts isn’t luck. It’s the result of refusing to improvise on jobs that don’t tolerate improvisation. If conditions on site don’t match the lift plan, we stop, reassess, and adjust — even if that means rescheduling.

Real Project Scenarios

14-Story Rooftop HVAC Swap

Street-level urban site, 14-story residential building. No staging area, swing-over adjacent building required. Full permit coordination with city DOT and building management.

Generator Set at Active Substation

65-ton generator delivered and set at an energized utility site. Full load plan developed, substation clearances coordinated with utility owner. Zero energy incidents.

Multi-Point Structural Steel Pick

Three simultaneous crane picks for precast installation at a commercial development. Multi-crane coordination with GC’s structural engineer, sequenced and documented before execution.
